About Guhyaloka

Guhyaloka is a Triratna Buddhist Centre. We are situated in a secluded mountain valley in the province of Alicante in Spain. We are here to provide facilities for and to serve the four-month Ordination retreats for men joining the Triratna Buddhist Order. Because Ordination takes place in a very specific and intensive context Guhyaloka is a retreat centre for men. Akashavana is also in Spain and provides the facilities for women to have intensive Ordination retreats as well.

We have three solitary huts and run and support other retreats as well.

Uttaraloka is another retreat centre close by which is supported by Guhyaloka where we run year-long retreats for Order members.

The Community

Guhyaloka has a men’s residential support community. We are comprised of men who have committed themselves to live together as a spiritual community, to deepen our practice of the Dharma and to serve the Dharma and Triratna. Some of us have been here for many years. We have full time community members and we are joined from time to time by others who come for periods time to help and support us.

The Guhyaloka Trust & Orden Budista Occidental

Here in Spain Guhyaloka is registered as a religious association, Orden Budista Occidental (O.B.O.). Our constitution is very similar to UK based charities. The Guhyaloka Trust is a UK based charity and is comprised mostly of designated members of the College of Public Preceptors. The Guhyaloka Trust owns Guhyaloka and OBO runs the activities here and manages the day to day affairs. The two organisations work closely together.
